My son did his insulin shot tonight and it bled a little.  That has happened before...  But right after it was painful and there was a knot there... Has this happened to anyone else?

    Support-Group Member Responds:

According to my clinician this is a normal and unavoidable consequence of injecting insulin.  I get maybe one in 10 shots that will either burn and bleed or just do one or the other.  It is not medically dangerous, just uncomfortable for the patient.  Below is a question I asked Mary a couple of months ago and her answer.

    Dave:

This is very normal, you are injecting a moderate amount of insulin, and some times if it is close to a small vessel, or nerve it will burn, and even bleed a little or alot. Can't always avoid this. Sorry....

GM Mary... I've got quick question.  Sometimes when I inject insulin the injection site really stings and burns after the shot.  Other times there is no sensation at all.  Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

    Regards.......
