GlucoMenu® Tip of the Day:
If you experience hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), your doctor
or diabetes educator may recommend keeping a "quick fix" of sugar with
you. Typically, these quick fixes should equal 10-15 grams of carbohydrate.
Examples include:
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 6 jelly beans
- 2 T. raisins
- 5 Lifesavers candy
Choose simple sugar foods that do not contain fat as fat will
delay how quickly sugar goes into the blood stream (chocolate is an example of a
sugar food that contains fat). The goal with sugar foods is to increase
blood sugar from a hypoglycemic state. Check with your doctor or diabetes
educator to learn more about low blood sugar and how to prevent it.
